Visit to "Het Gravensteen" Ghent on 15th of April 2026

"Het Gravensteen" is a castle of the Middle Ages, and as the name says, the castle of the count of Flanders, expressing his power over the city of Ghent. Ghent has been a reblious city.

In the 14th century, Ghent was the 2nd largest city of the North West of  Europe (after Paris).

It still has many buildings from that period.

The Gravensteen is great to visit and has some armour and weapons of the 15th century.

Ninove 1692 - 15/16 June 2019

On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June, the city of Ninove and SOLVA bring the seventeenth-century army camp at the archaeological site Doorn Noord back to life with the historic spectacle Ninove, 1692. Re-enactors and the finds complete the picture.

In the meantime, a great deal is already known about the findings from archaeological research. They are military camps from 1692.

"It was the main army of the Great Alliance that fought against Louis XIV during the Nine Year War from 1688 to 1697. That was led by William III, King of England, and Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria, governor of the Spanish Netherlands. The camp had about sixty thousand soldiers and forty thousand horses, was about eight kilometers long and spread to Nederhasselt, Okegem and almost as far as Liedekerke, "says archaeologist Arne Verbrugge of SOLVA.
